  1. Elektronika daya (Power electronics) adalah suatu disiplin teknik yang digunakan untuk mengubah daya listrik dari satu bentuk ke bentuk lain. Elektronika daya merupakan ‘enabling technology’ dengan dampak potensi yang sangat besar pada daya saing suatu bangsa. Teknologi ini dimanifestasikan melalui peningkatan efisiensi energi pada proses dan peralatan yang menggunakan daya listrik, dan melalui peningkatan produktivitas industri dan kualitas produk-produk yang semakin tinggi, yang merupakan hasil dari kemampuan untuk secara tepat mengontrol daya listrik untuk operasi-operasi manufacturing. Penjualan peralatan elektronika daya di seluruh dunia melebihi $60 billion tiap tahun. Dengan penggunaan teknologi elektronika daya yang luas secara efisien dan low-cost, tiap negara akan dapat mengurangi konsumsi energi listriknya sekitar 33%. Hal ini akan menghasilkan manfaat-manfaat sosial, lingkungan dan ekonomi yang luar biasa. Pada saat yang sama, konsumsi energi listrik dunia terus meningkat dan ada kebutuhan tetap untuk meningkatkan kapasitas daya listrik setiap tahun. Diperkirakan trend ini akan menjadi dua kali lipat dalam 20 tahun ke depan. Dua teknologi utama akan berperan penting untuk memecahkan masalah-masalah energi listrik di masa depan. Pertama adalah perubahan sumber-sumber produksi daya listrik dari yang berbasis fosil ke sumber-sumber energi terbarukan. Kedua adalah penggunaan elektronika daya yang berefisiensi tinggi pada pembangkit daya, distribusi daya dan aplikasi pada end-user. Perbaikan-perbaikan dengan konservasi energi dan hubungannya pada dampak lingkungan tidak dapat dicapai tanpa perubahan paradigma yang radikal pada teknologi elektronika daya.
